Hyundai Glovis: Bringing global plant spreadsheets into one planning file
Interpreting different Excel layouts and applying the domain knowledge behind a weekly materials planning task.
The work behind the project.
Every week, the Hyundai Glovis team had to consolidate dozens of Excel files from overseas plants for materials planning. Coxwave worked on reproducing the expertise behind that recurring task, including the rules and exceptions that were not obvious from the spreadsheets alone.
Plants submitted the same kinds of information in different formats. A workbook could contain several sheets, embedded business logic, and layouts organized for a person to read rather than a program to process.
Experienced staff could work through these variations using domain knowledge and lessons from previous cycles. Fixed rules alone could not capture that expertise, and missing or incorrect figures still needed careful attention because the consolidated data informed planning.
From knowledge to execution.
The handover combined dozens of input files, the final consolidated files produced by staff, and documented work procedures. Comparing real inputs with the expected output helped capture the transformations and judgments involved in the work.
- 01
Interpret the workbook
Identify the relevant information across sheets and layouts, using business context to understand how each file is organized.
- 02
Apply case-specific knowledge
Knowledge packs capture domain knowledge for different cases, including the context employees use to handle unfamiliar formats.
- 03
Transform and consolidate
Advanced Excel processing and transformation workflows reproduce the reasoning behind the employee’s consolidation process.
Project scope and outcome.
The automation effort focused on the actual work behind consolidation: interpreting human-oriented spreadsheets, applying business logic, and transforming the data into the form required for planning.
